SUMMARY:Durlin Lunt: Otter Creek's Lost Waterfront
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation by Durlin Lunt\, a lifelong resident
and former Town Manager of Mount Desert\, based on his 2026 Chebacco
article Otter Creek’s Lost Waterfront. This talk and the article that
inspired it explore how land acquisitions by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and
the expansion of Acadia National Park systematically isolated the village
of Otter Creek from its ancestral shores. \n\nLunt will examine the power
dynamics between this small community and federal agencies\, illustrating
how unrecorded agreements transformed a thriving maritime hub into an
'island within an island.' The program will highlight efforts to restore
the village’s working maritime identity\, including recent legislative
efforts - such as the 2024 Waterfront Resolution - to reconcile generations
of community disenfranchisement.\n\n---\n\nThis program is a collaboration
between the Northeast Harbor Library and the MDI Historical Society. It
will be offered in person and via Zoom\, and recorded for later viewing. If
you do not receive a confirmation email after registering\, please check
